After the success of Nicki Minaj's major pop crossover hit "Super Bass," some people might have thought the Queens MC had turned in her vitriol card. But then came "Stupid Hoe." With its spare handclap-looping, drum machine-as-an-uzi beat, the song recalls Old Nicki's mixtape days. Specifically, "Itty Bitty Piggy."
Unlike "Super Bass," "Stupid Hoe" isn't burning up the Billboard charts. It's sitting at #59 on the Billboard Hot 100 and now the video has been "banned" by BET. The last video BET bothered to ban was Ciara's "Ride," and we all know how the sad story of Basic Instinct went.
So that means Nicki Minaj and her fans should be in panic mode, right? Hardly. As we speak, the "Stupid Hoe" video has racked up over 22 million views on YouTube/VEVO in roughly two weeks. Which officially means the Internet loves it.
But the real measure of Internet success comes from the waves that a song/music video can create on YouTube. Beyonce's "Single Ladies" spawned countless YouTube performances and sky rocketed the Houston native and her Sasha Fierce album to the top. Following in "Single Ladies"' footsteps, Nicki Minaj's "Stupid Hoe" has already racked up a few viral winners of its own.
Join us as we explore the Internet's warm embrace of "Stupid Hoe" as an anthem it can call its own.
"Stupid Hoe" – The Fierce Files
This video features two....guys?, one guy, one girl?.....hard to say really. Anyway, it features two people who have clearly spent hours in front of Tyra Banks' America's Next Top Model show. As you watch their tribute to Nicki, you can hear Tyra screeching, "FIERCE! FIIIIIERRCE!" at every exaggerated face they make. Points for the creative African-inspired headwrap on top of a blonde wig.
"Stupid Hoe" – The Rosetta Stone Edition
Warning: You might not be able to breathe after watching this video the first time. We haven't seen a foreign language botch job of a song like this since Valentina Hasan and her inventive rendition of Mariah Carey's "Without You," aka "Ken Lee." Put Dejudom (how do you even pronounce that?) is an aspiring Thai pop star. There are other painful videos of him covering American pop stars on his YouTube channel as evidence. He appears to have to quickly picked up on the marketing value of covering major label American musicians. But he might want to avoid tongue twisting artists like Nicki Minaj until he can master the English language a little better. He does at least deserve credit for holding that "wwooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuullllllllldddddddddd" line all the way through though.
"Stupid Hoe" – America's Best Dance Crew
This ragtag group of misfits can dance their asses off. It's like Randy Jackson's America's Best Dance Crew with none of the special effects budget and minus the fail stench of Lil' Mama. Shout out to the crew for pulling off the best double cat daddy on a sidewalk ever. Nicki should hire some of these kids for her live performances.
"Stupid Hoe" – The Chippettes Remix
What? Doesn't everything sound better Chipmunk-style? Let's see if 20th Century Fox will throw this one in the Chipmunks movie sequel machine.
"Stupid Hoe" – Makeup Tutorial
In case you were feeling brave enough to attempt any of the crazy looks Nicki is sporting in the "Stupid Hoe" video, YouTube user QueenofBlendingMUA is here to guide you through the process!
There's also a male makeup artist who got into the "Stupid Hoe" beauty tips act as well. To be fair, he did a pretty good job at transforming himself into the Harajuku Barbie.
"Stupid Hoe" – The Karmin Attempt
YouTube sensation Karmin got its start in Internet fame by using its white boy/girl team to cover hip hop songs. The most successful of those covers being the band's take on Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now." Katyuhpai is hoping for similar success. But what felt original and groundbreaking with Karmin feels copycatish and desperate here. Try something else, y'all.
