Drake recently cleared the air on a lot of unanswered questions in a brief, but to the point interview with Nah Right. Have a look at some of Drakes answers below and head to Nahright for the full interview.
On a potential response to Common:
"No. Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a “hip hop moment” or a “battle for the sake of musical integrity”…it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album. More than anything it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story."
Drizzy plays this one well and it does seem that the Common beef has lost its steam, if it ever had any to begin with. The true reasoning behind the beef between the two is still up in the air thought. Was it really just a stunt for album sales, a battle over the integrity of a genre, or a love affair with Serena Williams?
Either way things appear to have cooled off and those hoping for a Young Money vs. G.O.O.D Music showdown will have to wait longer to see a Mr Hudson and Lil' Chuckee throwdown. All jokes aside, Drake handled himself well for a "soft" rapper in this beef. Certainly much better than the way he handled his ordeal with a certain tatoo artist. It's good to see Aubrey is learning his lessons.
On His "bitch you wasn't with me shooting in the gym" Vannessa Bryant reference:
"That line came from a conversation about being this young and making this much money and the fear of losing it all. I just used his potential situation to address my own life. I never intended to offend Vanessa or anyone else. That line had everything to do with me and what goes on in my head as a 25 year old man with this much income flowing in. Kobe is and always will be a friend and an icon to me."
Once again the Young Money knight in shining armor all tires comes out clean turning the line into more of a social commentary than a personal shot. He may have a point here. The phrase "You wasn't with me _____ in the _____" has become somewhat of a "we want pre-nup!" motto for men similar, but in more a roundabout way, as Kanye West's "Gold Digger".
Drake's got a lot on his plate and when you're at the top everyone is gonna be gunning for you no matter who you are. Although he got caught up in it briefly, Drizzy seems to be focused on the important stuff now. Which is the right path to take because in the end, good music conquers all.
