You could say that Katy Perry has been on a bit of a winning streak with her sophomore album Teenage Dream. The California-born singer has tied with Michael Jackson for the title of artist with the most #1's from an album.
So since she's on a roll, why stop the party? Perry is gearing up to release the sixth single, "The One That Got Away," from her Teenage Dream album. This is remarkable given that Perry hasn't even recorded a rerelease. Six singles in this day and age is about as rare as a diamond album. Only an album with legs can pull this trick off.
But can "The One That Got Away" break Katy Perry from her tie with MJ and pull her ahead of the pack, making her the only artist to score six #1's from an album? She's certainly intent on trying.
"I'm so pleased to select 'The One That Got Away' as my 6th single because this song shows a very different side of me that I haven't shown with my past singles on this record. I think that everyone can relate to this song. I wrote this song about when you promise someone forever, but you end up not being able to follow through. It's a bittersweet story - hopefully, the listener learns from hearing it and never has to say they had 'The One’ get away,” said Katy in a press release.
