Last Friday (August 24th) Epic Records took over New York City’s J&R Records store for day two of J&R’s annual Musicfest.
Some of Epic Records newest talent including Leah Labelle, Deon Young and X Factor’s Marcus Canty were on hand to showcase some of their new material. The show also included headlining performances from Ryan Leslie and Miguel.
Harlem native and up and coming R&B artist Deon Young who is currently grabbing attention with his cover of J. Cole and Missy Elliot’s "Nobody’s Perfect", hit the stage opening the show promoting his latest mixtape "Forever Young", with a live performance of tracks from the tape including his latest hit ‘Party Life’.
Leah Labelle followed up next performing tracks from her current self-titled album sampler, promoting her singles "So Hot", "Mr. Scissors", and her latest "Sexify".
Performing since the age of 11 Marcus Canty who made waves on X-Factor followed Labelle’s performance with his singles “In and Out” and “Won’t Make a Fool Out of You”, which was well received by those in the attendance.
Ryan Leslie blended some of his older hits including “Diamond Girl” and “Addiction”, with his newer tracks such as “Glory”, Leslie’s set was R&B infused with rock. Leslie also performed a number of songs that he produced for other artist as well.
Miguel closed the show, treating the audience to singles from his debut “All I Want is You”, including a brief cover of Tupac’s “I Get Around” as an intro to his single “Quickie”. Miguel worked the crowd acknowledging those who were all the way in the back of the room even making mentions about what some in the audience were wearing and doing.
Miguel wrapped up his set with the lead single from his latest album Kaleidoscope Dream, “Adorn.
Those in attendance were invited to a meet and greet inside J&R after the show, in which all performers signed autographs for fans.
